I was directly in the path during the last one, my view of it was spectacular. Use proper eye protection or you can burn out your retina and enjoy the view.vtraider » Fri Apr 05, 2024 11:44 am
Pretty much the same experience I had last time. Speaking of cicadas. This year is a double dose. Both 13 and 17 year cicada broods emerging at the same timeAttyla wrote Fri Apr 05, 2024 5:58 am:I was directly in the path during the last one, my view of it was spectacular. Some side notes, it was hot out when we had the last one, probably upper 80's, and when we approached totality there was a perceivable drop in temperature. The cicadas were buzzing until we got dark and they stopped. Birds flying around sought shelter. For those moments the world around us changed, it was awe inspiring. Mark Twain was inspired by an eclipse to write one of his novels with one of the plot points being about an eclipse. And finally, in about 600 years we will no longer have total eclipses due to rotational changes in our world and the fact that the moon will be too far away to make them happen.

I looked at the NASA site, and Memphis is close, but surprisingly we are as well. If the clouds stay away I will get all but the thumbnail view of the eclipse so I purchased glasses for the event.Sold My Soul » Fri Apr 05, 2024 8:27 pm
Went out and bought the glasses since they said it will be mostly clear here....Sold My Soul » Fri Apr 05, 2024 8:56 pm

We got about 90% as viewed here. Significant cloud cover but at the moment of max coverage, a break in the clouds. Magnificent view and a perceptible darkness.
