This is going to be a tough one. Like.. What is a defender who is trailing the ball carrier supposed to do? While chasing after him, be thinking about how to tackle him in a way to not cost his team 15yds on top of the gain the carrier already got? Dive for the ankles, I guess?WNYRAIDER » Thu Mar 21, 2024 4:52 am
...too much....again. ....how about all grass fields, or as similar as possible with the gymnasiums, (domes) where they might not be able to grow grass inside. ....slow the game down a little, rather than continually neutering the game we were drawn to decades ago, and give defenders a chance.chucker » Thu Mar 21, 2024 5:43 am
This is a comment on how to tackle QBs, but it's emblematic of what's happening to tackling in general.16 to 88 » Thu Mar 21, 2024 6:59 am

...and if they want to invent reasons to call penalties, how about on qb's who cry for a penalty at every inadvertent hand swipe during a pass rush, making defenders already at a disadvantage, (in which case, stop calling those penalties) though which has carried over to guys like mahomes feigning going out of bounds, knowing that the eh defender will be afraid to get a late hit call, and them scampering for an extra 6-7 yards, or more. the penalty would be when a qb feigns going out of bounds, but don't. ...total chickenshit move, and mahomes seems to be the guy who most pulls this punk shit....

There are more eyes watching, because there are more people and more ways to watch. People today are very fickle, they have so many other things to do. Mark my words the NFL will see their revenues drop in the next 5 years.Jeevo wrote Wed Mar 20, 2024 10:48 pm:Yet it’s never been more popular or made more money.

I doubt revenues are going down. I do think the arc will not be as steep but revenues will increase. The last three Super Bowls were the most watched programs in the US (excluding the first lunar landing but they do not have hard numbers on that)signal » Thu Mar 21, 2024 9:07 am
Whenever a new rule like this is introduced I always worry more about how it will be implemented than I am about the reasoning behind the rule itself.RenoRaiders75 » Thu Mar 21, 2024 9:31 am
That's unsportsmanlike, that is 15 yards, and 100k fine payable to Roger Godell's trust, and if you do it twice you are suspended for the season.Dr Death wrote Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:24 pm:As long as they can still hit em' with their purse...

I honestly do not care anymore. Legislate the shit out of the game. Fouls have always been subjective for the most part, and we are just adding in more and more. it kind of gets to the point where flags are going to fly if a guy tackles a guy who is just smaller than the tackler because that is not fair. We already see flags fly when a QB is hit as he releases the ball because the tackler launched before the ball was thrown but arrived after the ball was in the air but he could not somehow pull off some in flight change of trajectory to miraculously not hit the guy.Southshield » Thu Mar 21, 2024 12:10 pm
Keeping a team under 30 points is going to be a dominant defense soon.Be_Easy_25 » Thu Mar 21, 2024 12:56 pm

Just judging based on QB's I would think the new rules that say you cannot hit Barbie are getting the results they want.Be_Easy_25 wrote Thu Mar 21, 2024 12:56 pm:People want the essence of the thing without getting the thing.
Diet Soda.
Plant based meat.
Decaf Coffee.
Football without the hitting, violence, and injuries. The game is literally getting worse by the offseason.
Have all these new rules resulted in less injuries to NFL players? Would be interesting to see.

This, I totally get the theory of this proposed rule, but the problem is that it's subjective. You might have some jackass ref from the other part of the field try and throw a flag on a perfectly good tackle in a crucial moment that decides the game. I'm already looking around for flags after every great defensive play on 3rd or 4th down. Now I have to worry about this shit, especially vs Kermit.Arsenal Raider wrote Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:56 pm:Being Raider fans... My and (I'm sure our) main concern isn't that a new penalty rule exists, but that it gives the refs a new opportunity to rat fuck us when they feel like doing so.
Hopefully those days are over.
