And add to that all the extra revenue that a lot of businesses in the area have lost up til now from the Warriors and Raiders moving. Of course, with the A's it wasn't much because of attendance numbers since forever. I remember going down Hegenburger and hitting all the spots before and after games for all 3 and places were packed with fans. The good ol' days. Kind of sad. I was never happy I left Oakland but now I'm not remorseful about it anymore.Attyla wrote Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:33 am:Was commenting to my wife last night that the various mayors/officials did their damnedest to chase away every pro franchise leaving one of the great sports fanbases without quality sports entertainment.
Sadly, it is those fans that have to seek their entertainment elsewhere.

It doesn't help that Oakland is crime ridden and businesses moving out left and right.352Raider » Fri Apr 05, 2024 3:02 pm
We live up in Lake County, on the north side of Lake Eustis, it’s still semi-rural here but my job takes me to Orlando on projects…traffic is terrible with all the newcomers and tourists.AdamJoshua28 wrote Fri Apr 05, 2024 10:10 am:I grew up in Satellite Beach, moved to Boston for 18 years, then off to SD for a dozen years and now back to the Cocoa Beach area, neither Boston nor SD are big cities and i still just didn't like them, finally came back to where i was comfortable and Orlando to me is just another pit.

I doubt out of town fans taking in a game in Oakland came here to see Oakland. Maybe SF because at one time SF was a pretty cool city but it is sinking too. But I do agree Oakland is a shithole. I lived in Oakland for a couple of years in the early 80`s in the tail end of the crack wars and it was better then than now lolAdamJoshua28 wrote Fri Apr 05, 2024 12:07 pm:It doesn't help that Oakland is crime ridden and businesses moving out left and right.
Violent crime and other felonies fell in 2023 in America's biggest cities. They increased in Oakland. Robberies grew 38% last year in Oakland, according to police data. Burglaries increased 23%.Feb 6, 2024
In Eastmont alone crime is over 400% the national average.
Not too many tourist are going to go to Oakland to take in a sporting event, unlike many other cities that people will make it a point to go there on vacation to see different teams. The only thing the high crime rate does is lower land value for a stadium.

If my horrible memory is correct, I think the Kings were actually yellow and purple like the Lakers right before they swapped to the silver and black too...16 to 88 wrote Thu Apr 04, 2024 7:59 pm:HUH?!

Oakland and big dollar sports no longer mix and Oakland's stance is more the will of the people where they are saying "the people aren't footing stadiums to billionaires anymore". It's a popular pov. So imo no hard feelings. If someone else's people give it all up, so be it.Attyla wrote Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:33 am:Was commenting to my wife last night that the various mayors/officials did their damnedest to chase away every pro franchise leaving one of the great sports fanbases without quality sports entertainment.

They should get a lot of casual fans when they get to Vegas. Maybe they can start keeping their good players.STHfrontrow » Tue Apr 09, 2024 12:15 pm
The A's could've done something real special or unique and stayed in the Bay Area. They have a great fanbase but the owner seems to be one who is not embracing that perspective.SkullCrusher wrote Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:53 am:Oakland and big dollar sports no longer mix and Oakland's stance is more the will of the people where they are saying "the people aren't footing stadiums to billionaires anymore". 14K seats is over twice what they average per game right now.
Fuck the A's ownership though and their promises to change over and over and never did it once.

the move ensures they make money. Stadium will be full like with the Raiders and the hockey team. A's are going to become a might higher revenue team and that means more competition in the market for players.STHfrontrow wrote Tue Apr 09, 2024 12:15 pm:The A's could've done something real special or unique and stayed in the Bay Area. I'm guessing they will not have a fanbase that follows them to LV like the Raiders do. They will have to grow their fanbase.

I can understand tax payers not wanting to fund stadiums for billionaires, but in this case, it sounds to me like Oakland's City Council, knowing the team was in a spot, tried to take advantage.SkullCrusher wrote Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:53 am:Oakland and big dollar sports no longer mix and where they are saying "the people aren't footing stadiums to billionaires anymore". "The city of Oakland will present A's ownership with an "offer to extend the team's lease" at the Coliseum that includes a five-year contract with an opt-out after three years, "as well as a requirement" the team pays a $97M "extension fee.""

And there's nothing wrong with that stance. My problem was with the SIO people who said "We're not giving money to billionaire sports owners anymore....which means we want Mark to turn down $750 million in money from Nevada and pay for it himself here."SkullCrusher wrote Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:53 am:Oakland and big dollar sports no longer mix and Oakland's stance is more the will of the people where they are saying "the people aren't footing stadiums to billionaires anymore".
